Leaman Environmental Stewardship Grant Application

The Friends of Norfolk’s Environment (FONE) Leaman Grant offers mini grants up to $1,000 for the purpose of environmental education in the city of Norfolk. The Leaman Grant provides funding for environmentally focused projects and opportunities that benefit Norfolk communities. Applicants are encouraged to develop projects that align with the Norfolk Green Infrastructure plan and that engage citizens in environmentally sustainable behaviors and contribute to the mission of FONE: to inspire a spirit of stewardship among all citizens of the city.

The Leaman Grant is named to honor and remember Miss Gill Leaman, who taught kindergarten through third grade in Hampton Roads, Memphis, and Cleveland. She brought storybook characters to life with each lesson.  Her favorites were stories where children became aware of the relationship between themselves and the environment and how small actions by many children can literally save the earth.
