Since our beginning in 1999, we've been a group of dedicated volunteer community leaders engaging with individual citizens to improve Norfolk's environment.

Our Mission

To inspire a spirit of environmental stewardship among all citizens of the City.

OUR VALUES

We believe that citizen-based initiatives build stronger, more resilient neighborhoods.

We believe that partnerships among government, businesses, non-profits, and citizens afford the best opportunity for success.

ABOUT

The Friends of Norfolk’s Environment celebrated its 20th Anniversary in 2019.  Our all-volunteer membership is committed to the greening of Norfolk through the expansion of the City’s tree canopy.  We emphasize education and restoration activities, sponsor tree adoption events, and seek partners to enhance green spaces, parks, neighborhoods, and deforested city areas. We collaborate to enrich the social well-being of our community and address resiliency concerns.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world;
indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.
— Margaret Mead, Change Maker
